Sesheke Town Council has commissioned six community projects at Kalobolelwa Secondary School in Kalobolelwa Ward under the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) aimed at addressing accommodation challenges faced by pupils from remote areas.
The projects includes two dormitories for boys and girls, two ablution blocks , Water scheme and a kitchen facility to support learners who previously struggled to find safe accommodation while attending school.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, Honorable Romeo Kangombe, Member of Parliament for Sesheke Central Constituency, said the Constituency Development Fund is a government initiative meant to transform communities and bring development closer to the people.
Mr Kangombe said Kalobolelwa Secondary School receives pupils from distant parts of the district who had been facing serious accommodation challenges due to the absence of boarding facilities.
He explained that the situation forced many learners to seek accommodation in nearby villages, this situation is expensive, unsafe and not conducive to effective learning.
“The community raised concerns about the lack of accommodation for learners, and the construction of dormitories became a priority so that children can live and study in a safe and supportive environment within the school premises,” Mr Kangombe said.
He added that the Constituency Development Fund Committee (CDFC) listened to the concerns of the community and prioritized the project.
“The government, through the CDF, responded decisively and delivered these modern facilities that we are commissioning today,” he said.
Mr Kangombe further noted that the new infrastructure represents more than just buildings but facilities that will create opportunities for children by improving their learning conditions.
Sesheke Town Council Chairperson Simushi Kapelwa said the boys’ and girls’ dormitories have been powered by solar energy and are fully equipped with bunker beds, mattresses and storage units for learners to ensure comfort.
Mr Kapelwa said two ablution blocks have also been constructed to provide proper sanitation and dignity for the learners.
He added that the project includes a water scheme aimed at ensuring a reliable supply of clean and safe water for the school community.
“These are not just structures; they are investments in the future of our children and the future of Sesheke ” Kapelwa said.
And Sesheke Town Council Secretary Collins Simoonga described the Constituency Development Fund as a game changer that is directly improving people’s lives and bringing essential services closer to communities.
